Kick off SENS-THERM project

On November 20, 2023, representatives from Z43 and project partners SENSIUS B.V., Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) and Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam (Erasmus MC) met in Rotterdam to kick-off the recently launched SENS-THERM project – short for “Electromagnetic sensing, video control and metamodeling in thermotherapy of advanced head and neck (H&N) cancers”. The aim of the project is to develop hardware and software for personalized, quality-controlled thermotherapy planning and treatment administration in H&N cancers, based on electromagnetic fields.

Sensius Thermotherapy (TT) is safe, improves survival when combined with chemo- and/or radiotherapy and results in reduced cancer-related mortality. The treatment efficacy depends on the actual temperature in the tumour. Therefore, monitoring is crucial, but the gold-standard of invasive thermometry is cumbersome, risky and provides limited data. Equipping Sensius Focus technology with SENS-THERM allows control over temperature distribution in the tumour and enables reproducible treatment. This safe and easy procedure enables widespread adoption, and thereby in increased survival and improved Quality of Life for patients.

We look forward to having the benefit of all knowledge combined in this promising project which is key for the development of our treatment software planning.
